Maxim 2008 - Celebrity pics

Lauren Conrad

Marisa Miller

Amanda Bynes attended Maxim’s party, where she apparently scored a spot on the list with nary a DUI, sex tape or “leaked” nude photo. Impressive, indeed.

Audrina Partridge was looking hot in yellow at Maxim’s 2008 Hot 100 Party in L.A. on Wednesday. She’s much better looking than Heidi Montag and Lauren Conrad from MTV’s The Hills, but yet she doesn’t get as much media attention as they do.

Sexy Lips

Everyone dreams of having sexy lips that are ready for the kissing! Read on for tips as to how to get that perfect pout.

Kissable Perfection

Thin-lipped women all over the globe have admired Angelina Jolie’s sexy and full lips, and have probably been a little envied and resentful as well. How does she get that supple smile? Rumors of cosmetic surgery mounted until baby Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt made her debut to the world last year sporting the same lip service as mom. So what is Angelina’s secret? Genetics – unfortunately not something you really have much control over.
However, you can still enjoy perfectly kissable lips whether or not they ever graze Brad’s, and you can still fake a plumped up pout if you weren’t lucky enough to inherit one. One of the biggest things that you can do to keep your lips romantically soft and inviting is to take proper care of them. Nothing will replace the advantages of protecting them from the sun and being sure to use a protectant on a regular basis. Without this foundation in place, anything else that you buy and apply will not be able to work up to its full potential.

Ten Tips For Sexy lips

BBW Magazine recently gave readers the top 10 secrets to sexy lips, and the advice is probably simpler than you thought. The top trick is to be sure to exfoliate on a regular basis. At least once a week, smooth on some petroleum jelly and let it soak in and set for five minutes. Then, taking a toothbrush covered in warm water, brush your lips gently. This will work as a spa for your smile, making dry and dead skin history!

After exfoliating, consider using lip liner to accentuate your mouth after applying your lipstick. You probably went through your teenage years being taught to apply lip liner first – however it is much more effective as a follower to the main color, and will help you to avoid that unsightly line residue that liner is unfortunately famous for.
To plump up that pout, put a dot of sheer gold-hued lipstick on the middle of your bottom lip. Press your lips together and you get a fake collagen boost that will make your mouth more alluring and full of life.
Another piece of advice to remember is that lipstick is not for everyone. Some ladies can pull off sexy with just a hint of color. There are some great glosses out there that won’t overpower your mouth while still giving you the look of sexy lips.
A unique trick in the quest for a renovated smile is often found in a little creativity. Don’t be afraid to mix your glosses and lipsticks, creating a color that is copyright you and only you. Your friends may go mad trying to hunt it down in the store, but you will be sitting pretty with your creation enhancing your look and bringing you enviable style.
An oldie but goodie that you may have forgotten is you get much more mileage out of your lipstick when you don’t apply it directly from the tube. Using a lip brush or other tool to apply will help you to have color longevity, in turn, extending the life of your sexy lips.
Using a lip liner one shade darker than your general lip color will help your mouth to stand out and give you a subtle, yet dramatic enhancement to your makeup.
Dark lipstick will help you to look seriously romantic and ready for love. Be sure to blot to avoid overkill. There is a fine line between beautiful and tacky when it comes to dark lip colors, so beware! However, if you do it right, you will look as if you were blessed with berry colored kissers.
A final tip for sexy lips is to remember to always keep your favorite gloss or balm on hand. Compulsive lip lickers will tell you that your lips will dry out quickly if you are constantly licking away. Using a medicated balm or gloss regularly throughout the day will help to protect your sexy lips and keep them going strong.

When These Tips Just Don’t Do the Trick

Some gals are still battling shy lips, and have turned to lip plumpers to do the trick. But do they work? For some women they do. However, whether they work or not, everybody who uses them is going to really understand the old saying “pain is beauty” in a whole new way.
These plumpers work to sting or irritate your lips, thus causing them to swell up and look fuller. If you don’t mind the burning sensation and don’t have extremely sensitive skin, then this could be one way to achieve the sexy lips you’ve always dreamed of.

Another alternative is to receive lip injections of Restylane or other fillers that plump out your lips.

However, many women avoid harsh tactics and instead are enjoying the results of plumpers and traditional lip colors. Give these tips a try and get your sexy lips today!

‘Steal the Celebrity Style’ Madonna in Timeless Black-on-Black

Is it just me, or did Madonna stop aging somewhere in the ‘90s? While the jury is still out on just how natural the look really is, it’s hard to deny that she looks good these days. The timeless Ms. M was recently snapped wearing a sleek black-on-black ensemble set off by a vintage gold bracelet (and her own red Kabbalah string, of course). The timeless look only intensifies the ageless vibe Madonna has mastered.

Celebrity

Who do you think should be on this list? Tell us!

Britney Spears now has another distinction to add to her collection of dubious achievements: She is among the group of young celebs whose obituaries have already been written. In recent years news organizations have begun prepping obits for junior stars whose antics could land them in the gone-too-soon category. Obituaries have long been prepared for famous senior citizens, and though the media are reluctant to confirm names, some young celebs are now getting them too.
“It’s a sign of the times,” says Jesse Washington, the entertainment editor at the Associated Press, who says that Spears and Amy Winehouse are on his watch list. “People are more famous and destructive than they have been in the past.” Adds Marilyn Johnson, a former obit writer and the author of The Dead Beat: Lost Souls, Lucky Stiffs, and the Perverse Pleasures of Obituaries: “Amy Winehouse? She’s the definition of risk.” Johnson also speculates that advance obits could be ready on Mary-Kate Olsen, Courtney Love and Whitney Houston.
Happily, one can get off and stay off this dreary list. Writers used to worry about Nicole Richie, but now “she doesn’t seem like she’s courting death anymore,” Johnson says. “Other people, like Jennifer Aniston, were never on it. She’s always had her act together.”
Nobody likes thinking of stars in the past tense. Washington, for one, roots for all of his subjects. “Britney Spears has millions of fans, but today her obituary would focus on her troubles. I hope that she’s around for 70 more years, and that her struggles are just a footnote in the history of her career.”

Victoria Beckham with White Hermes Birkin Handbag

Victoria Beckham with  White Hermes Birkin Handbag

As we all know, the white handbag is so in this season. It’s perfect actually. A neutral hue that isn’t difficult to match with your articles of clothing. Just like every girl should own that simple black handbag, I feel the same way towards its compliment, the white handbag. Let me ask you girls this question. What is hotter than a white handbag this season? Why an all white Hermes Birkin of course! If you’re a fan of the French brand Hermes, then you definitely agree with my statement. Unfortunately, right now with my limited student budget, I can only daydream of owning my very own piece of French luxury, unlike the infamous Mrs. Victoria Beckham who is probably one of Hermes top customer of all times. What a diva Mrs. Beckham is, right? Whether she’s stocking up on Rodeo Drive or taking her boys to the park, I swear she always looks fabulous. If you have the extra moolah lying around, I believe putting it towards a Hermes handbag is not a bad idea at all. Their exquisite pieces live up to their name and in the long run; you’ll be carrying one true (and amazing) investment.

Why no matter how hard she tries Posh just can’t do Posh

Victoria Beckham in Manhattan this week

Today I want to write something nice about Victoria Beckham, I really do. I don’t want yet another really cross e-mail from her public relations manager sitting ominously in my inbox.
And I am loath to type a single negative adjective about an Armani design, having only recently been deemed sufficiently rehabilitated by the Italian designer’s quite scary press team and allowed back into the Milan catwalk shows (unlike The New York Times’s Cathy Horyn, who has just started her sentence out in the cold because, according to Giorgio Armani himself, she wrote something demeaning about his niece, Roberta).
But, honestly, what on earth was the Twiglet-limbed one thinking when, this week, at the annual Costume Institute Ball in Manhattan, the “Oscars of the East”, she turned up as lamb dressed as mutton in a vintage sheer, beaded cream lace dressing gown from the Armani autumn/winter 1989 collection?
Rather than look her age, which is 34, she looked at least 50.
Her hair was in a harsh updo, her lips painted pillarbox red, her cheekbones were heavy handedly shaded and highlighted, her eyes were rimmed with white kohl, a make-up trick which is supposed to make your eyes look larger, but hasn’t been seen on anyone since Marlene Dietrich was still alive.
Then there was her pallor which was like that of a ghost, or a corpse.
In fact, the image of Bette Davis in What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? has just sprung, unbidden, into my brain.
The evening, which had a superheroes theme, was co-hosted by Giorgio Armani and Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of American Vogue, who I assume had air-kissed and made up, given their recent falling out.
Earlier this year, at the Press conference to announce the event, Ms Wintour had pronounced the age of Armani “over” (and, oh my god, if it wasn’t before Victoria stepped out in that dress, it certainly is now).
Meanwhile, the designer had said of the most powerful woman in fashion (Anna Wintour, not VB) that he “can’t understand why so many people don’t like her. I am indifferent to her; what she thinks is a beautiful dress, maybe I don’t think it is a beautiful dress”. Oh dear.
But Ms Wintour has a point. Armani is elegant and simple, but it is not cutting edge, or cool, or edgy, or sexy - qualities Victoria always looks for in an outfit. And so while the Armani outfit was a surprise choice for Victoria, there is a very good reason she was wearing that label.
Because Victoria, husband David and the second most annoying celebrity couple in the world, Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise (who, by the way, was wearing tuxedo trousers that were far too short for him; a man’s trousers should crumple just once on the shoe, not dingle-dangle in mid-air), were attending as “guests” of Giorgio Armani (he likes to call them “friends”), then of course that is what they had to wear.

Fashion victim: Lady in red in 2006 (left), Posh on the catwalk in 2007
When you see a celebrity at a designer event, inevitably dressed head-to-toe by the host in question, you can bet your last euro that the star has been flown to the venue first class, put up in a swanky hotel, and gets to keep the clothes (Armani’s press team have yet to confirm or deny my supposition).
Surely, though, with hindsight, the Beckhams should have travelled to the Metropolitan Museum of Art under their own steam, because Victoria’s outfit did not suit her at all. Her unique selling point is that she possesses a nice brand of self-deprecating humour, which would have been better served by a quirky, witty and much younger outfit by an up-and-coming British designer - the short, flirty silver disc dress by Christopher Kane, say, would have been perfect. Celebrating with husband David this New Year
Victoria simply doesn’t suit the dour, buttoned-up, super-sophisticated gown that needs, ooh, I don’t know, the knowing likes of Lauren Hutton circa American Gigolo (the movie that made Armani’s name) to pull it off.
Trying to look soignée and elegant and failing miserably is, unfortunately, Victoria’s most common fashion faux pas.
She stepped out on New Year’s Eve in a vintage gown, turban and over-made-up face that merely served to make her look miserable; she resembled Ena Sharples while undergoing colonic irrigation.
At a catwalk show not long ago, I saw Victoria in a very severe black skirt suit by Dolce & Gabbana, teamed with her trademark superpointy black shoes (at least the strappy silver sandals she wore in Manhattan were light and pretty).
Somehow on Victoria the outfit was not, as it was meant to be, ironic and sexy, but instead depressing and faintly ridiculous.
You see, the problem is that at the very bourgeois, top end of the designer market, the only end Victoria wants to buy into, whether the designer be Chanel, Dior or Armani, the only women who can afford to purchase the couture collections (rather than just the shoes, or the bags, or the perfume) are, and I hate to say this, pretty damn old.
Twenty or thirtysomethings aren’t really meant to fetch up in floor-length tulle festooned with rose buds and Swarovski crystal, which is why, at red carpet events, everyone, even the likes of Keira Knightley, inevitably looks far beyond their years. And while a young woman can pull off a big occasion frock, it is only when she keeps her face fresh, her hair tousled and her expression sunny.
On Victoria, who always wears lots of make-up because of her deep-seated insecurities about her skin and her looks (did you see her on the cover of British Vogue? Not only was her hand in front of her face, she was airbrushed into oblivion), who rarely cracks a smile in public, and who hasn’t the confidence to wear a dress, rather than let it wear her, the result is disastrous. To put it bluntly, Posh just cannot do Posh.
